5 Leather Jacket Styles that Will Get Your Friends Start Shopping.

Your comprehensive (slightly know-it-all) look at the leather jacket. Let's get right into it.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I SPEND?

The price is relative to the quality: the more the panels, the lower the price. The more hide- skin that is used, or in this case, panels, the less the garment is considered quality. The type of leather used also makes a massive price difference. Full-grain leather is soft, and it's of the best quality. The leather should not be stuffy. Then you have the top grain. This is when the maker sands the jacket; this is to even out the colour.

THE BIKER

As suggested, this was created for the uber-cool biker. There are movable pieces that would be flapping in the wind or any zippers chaffing you riding your excellent ride. It features a snug fit with a D-pocket (literally) and lapels designed to snap down or fold over each other and zip up. A rugged garment honed from goatskin, cowhide or horsehide.

FIELD JACKET

This jacket was initially made in cotton but has had a promotion to the leather look. This look was intended for the military, and I rarely see men wearing them here in North America.

This model is slightly longer than other styles, with multiple front pockets and belted at the waist. Often buttoned with a hidden placket, it looks perfect in rich brown leather and soft cream, and as it falls below the waist, it will keep you warmer and better shield you from the elements.

BOMBER JACKET

This American flight jacket is a classic, timeless piece. The crop body fitted sleeves-cuffs and waistband with a single central zip. Consider it in nylon, to soft, supple leather. I love this one!

RACER JACKET

This is close to the Bomber but loose. After the war, the boys worked on the old motorcycles. They created the need for a streamlined, minimalist leather racing jacket. Heavy horsehide and a strong main zipper protected the girl racers.

FLIGHT JACKET

Stunning piece. Made for the pilots to keep warm and a great addition to your wardrobe. This looks great with most looks and bulky and with a shearling lining for warmth. Remember to layer lightly.
